Newest Member of the Family

We've decided to add a new member of the family that is not a human. Meet Abbie. She is a Canis lupus familiaris (dog) in the line of a German Shepherd Heeler mix. She is 4 months old. I found the ad in the KSL classifieds. It cost a whopping $0. The lady saved her from being euthanized. So this afternoon we drove down to Beaver to pick her up. We love her. She is very much like our old dog Woody. Very calm and smart. But so far the cat hates her. We'll see how that works out.

Restaurant Reviews : Pat's BBQ

Pat's BBQ was voted by Salt Lake City Weekly this year for having the state's best ribs. So naturally, we tested it out. It's location is on some back road where you would have never thought there would be a place to eat. When we first walked in, Rachel asked me if it was a bar. I said "no", but I didn't know. But it ended not being a bar. Shame. You walk clear in the back and there are a bunch of tables you just sit down at. There was a bluegrass band playing there which made the atmosphere fun. It was kind of just like a cool place to hang out with the guys drinking beer. But I had Mountain Dew. It was fun. I ordered a half rack of ribs and could only finish half of those. They were huge. And the way they cook them was awesome. They smoke them in applewood for hours so it has a really good smokey flavor. It was probably the best ribs I've had in a while. Rachel ordered a pulled pork sandwich that she really enjoyed. The corn bread was the best I've ever had. This will definitely the best BBQ place I've been to in Utah. (The best ever is Rattlers in Cali)

Restaurant Review : Victor's Restaurant

So I read about this place in the Salt Lake Tribune and Rachel and I decided to go and check it out. It was a very interesting place to eat. It all got started with Victor opening up a tire store. His wife started making tamales to give to people while they waited and that ended up growing and opening a restaurant in the tire store.

Well we went last night. It is located west of I-15 so you know it's in the "other" side of town. It is also located in the industrial part of town. Needless to say it made Rachel a little nervous. But we show up and go inside and we were the only white folk around and most of everything was in Spanish. That's how you know it will be authentic. But they have 12 different types of tamales and some other Mexican dishes. We ordered some tamales, a bag of mangoes, and I got a Mexican Coke (made with cane sugar instead which is better). WE LOVED THEM. In fact, we ordered a dozen more to go. It was really good and their green cilantro salsa is freaking great. And it's cheap! The only gripe that we have is you don't quite know how great the sanitation is there, being a tire store restaurant, but sanitation has never been a big problem for me.

Bottom line : Check it out.

Spring Skiing

A couple of weeks ago, Dad, Kyle, and myself went skiing on a Friday to Alta : skiing's holy land. Truly Alta is one of the best place on earth. Well needless to say it was a fun time. I think I was the oldest one of the bunch. I had to keep up with Kyle AND Dad. Who would have thunk it. I guess it's my lifestyle of the laziness (which I have perfected). But it was really a lot of good stuff. One of the more memorable chairlift discussions was Kyle and I quoting 'Flight of the Conchords' and looking at the intrigue from Dad's face. One of my favorite things about skiing is to just take a look at the surrounding area. The views from the mountain top are the best, and definitely one of the best scenic views around. But overall, it was definitely worth skipping school.
