1 week

Layla is a week old. She is a tiny little thing. But she is doing great and even growing a chin roll :). She has had a busy week adjusting to life outside the womb. Many visitors have come to welcome our little mouse (affectionate nickname from Great Grandma). We are so lucky to have friends and family that love and support us.

Birth Story

I went to my regular 38 week dr. appointment on 1/19. My doctor noted that I was measuring small, closer to 35 weeks and wanted to schedule an ultrasound to check things out. I wasn't worried, because I've always measured a little small. On 1/21 I went in for the ultrasound. They guessed that Layla was only about 5 1/2 lbs and said sometimes this could indicate placenta or umbilical cord problems. So they said "better out than in" and wanted to induce me right then. I was very surprised and kind of mad because I wanted to go into labor on my own. Colby gave me a blessing to help eased my anxiety.

At 4:00pm I was admitted to labor and delivery. My cousin Marci just happened to be working there that day. It was good to see a familiar face. At 5:00 they gave me Petocin to start contractions. At 6:00 they broke my water and I got an epidural. At midnight I started pushing and at 2am she was here! Overall it was a pretty smooth labor. I think my body and little Layla were ready to come after all. She was 6lbs 1 oz at birth, so over half a pound bigger than they thought. She is very healthy and strong. We didn't decide on a name until after she was born. Colby did a great job helping me through labor and he is such a good daddy already!

Layla Heaps is here!

Colby and I are SO happy to announce the arrival of Layla Georgia Heaps born 1-22-11 at 2:07 am. She weighed 6 pounds 1 ounce and measured 20 inches. She is a small little bean and so precious! We are overjoyed and in awe of our sweet baby girl. Birth story and more pics to come.
